In today’s ‘Meet the Lindens’ interview with Danger Linden (Sr. Director, Product, Virtual Worlds) and Troy Linden, (Senior Producer), Danger Linden revealed several important features of Linden Lab’s next generation virtual world in development, Project Sansar, including that every user with a basic account will have access to free virtual land.
Free starter land will be available to anyone who wishes to register a basic account with Project Sansar. Details were unclear as to how much virtual land Linden Lab would make freely available to every user, or what its use or restrictions would entail.
Second, Danger Linden also revealed that Linden Lab will offer a master account model for new registrations, where users can sign in to the new platform with their email address (as their username), and manage multiple accounts through one central account. He also confirmed that Linden Lab hoped to allow for the sharing of a wallet (i.e. currency account) and inventory between alternate accounts registered under the primary email address.
Third, Danger Linden said that users’ identity in Project Sansar will remain anonymous, but that privileges and rights in Project Sansar would positively correlate with the degree to which users supply Linden Lab with real-life identification data – on a secure and confidential basis.

Interesting stuff… I like most of the ideas so far. I’m wondering if they’ve made clear yet if a basic account = a free account, as it is for Second Life, or if all accounts will be somewhat chargeable? Maybe I’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out more, but thanks for the news
My assumption is that if a basic account is “non-registered” it would likely be free. Given that Linden Lab is trying to break down the barriers to adoption – not raise them – I would find it contradictory to everything said so far that they’d charge money to register.
Yes, I can see what you mean, it’s just if they are giving something – land for instance – they are unlikely to just give that out to non-registered people. However, Sansar should be different from SL and I hope it attracts them many new customers – and a few old ones (even ones like me who quake in their boots at the thought of starting over).

No support for Linux is a bogus, not that i use it (win 7) but more and more are changing to that os, that is proved to work much better for current sl and open sim.
So i do hope that both the goals and target of sansar are not the same as Sl cause i’m not expecting to make the move (would go much faster back to Open sim, lol).
Define basic account….I mean To the lindens is Basic sansar account equivalent to an account backed by a credit card and able to buy virtual currency? If So its not that much different than say Premium accounts on second life, your basic user. We get land a house….and perhaps its a start up to get people in then they go to premium at some future date with new features.One hats wonder about the Linden terminology and are we simply assuming that its the same with Sansar and second life. I remain optimistic though about Sansar Developments sthere will help Second life as well. People will say well we should have done this is second life we can do that in Sansar……then they will say you know? We can fix that in second life by changing this or that. Make the two platforms a more unified experience.You dont want people on second life going to Sansar and saying EWWW its just too different.So you have make it at least similar in function.so the basic user can easily switch back and forth. This give and take should help Both Sansar and Second life. as they say for years come.

This will make this type of account very different from an SL premium account in many respects – namely, it will be free and non-registered.

Their aim with getting real life data from registered users is to combat greifing and trolling. This is why you will need to provide more data to LL if you want privileges in Project Sansar. I’m not sure of what those privileges involve, but I would imagine that it might involve mingling with the greater community, buying land, building objects, creating groups, etc. (All assumptions by the way, but it follows).

Project Sansar is looking better. I hope they will also find a way to offer (attainable to mainstream SL) something like SLgo. I do know there are a lot of people that relied on SLgo either while traveling or because they can’t afford a new computer.
